Reliance Jio has announced the Jio TV+ content curation platform at its 43rd Annual General Meeting 2020. Jio TV+ will be available to Jio TV set-top box users, enabling them to browse and play content from most major OTT platforms. Jio TV+ is a platform along the lines of Xiaomi’s Patchwall UI or OnePlus’ Oxygen Play, which sorts and aggregates content from major streaming platforms in one unified interface.
Apart from Jio TV+, the telco also announced its mixed reality glasses called Jio Glass, which enables 3D virtual rooms, meetings and more. Jio also announced its strategic partnership with Google to develop a custom Android OS for cheap 4G and 5G smartphones.
Jio TV+: what is it?
Jio TV Plus is a content aggregation platform that brings OTT apps, TV channels, various apps and services in a single unified interface. Jio TV+ is an interface for the Jio TV set-top box, just like Xiaomi’s Patchwall UI or OnePlus’ Oxygen Play. It also features universal search, which will search for keywords across all platforms and apps. There’s also an aggregated voice search that searches content based on actors, directors, genres, producers and more on all platforms.
Jio TV+: what does it offer?
Reliance Jio has partnered with 12 popular OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, SonyLiv, Zee5, JioCinema, JioSaavn, YouTube and others. Jio TV+ will show content from the above-mentioned services in a single interface.
Jio also showcased a host interactive feature for Live TV channels. This basically lets Jio TV+ users take part in polls on reality TV shows to vote for contestants and more. The interactive features like polls will also be made available on news channels and music contests. Jio is betting on two-way communication and interactivity on live TV becoming popular in the future.
Jio has also added a Jio App Store via the Jio set-top box, which offers apps across multiple categories including entertainment, education, health, yoga, religion, news, travel and more. The company has also announced the Jio Developers Program, inviting developers to create apps for the Jio App Store.
Jio TV+: universal login for all OTT platforms
To make things even more convenient for its users, Reliance Jio announced that users will not be required to login individually on Netflix, Hotstar, Disney+, or other OTT platforms separately to watch the content. Instead, users can make use of a single login to access all the services.
As of now, the single click login is only applicable to 12 primary OTT platforms. These include Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, Sony LIV, Zee5, Lionsgate Play, JioCinema, Shemaroo, JioSaavn, YouTube, and Eros Now.
Jio TV+: when will it be available?
Reliance Jio has not yet announced when Jio TV+ will be rolled out to Jio TV users. We should have more details on this in the coming days.
