JioMeet video conferencing app announced, allows up to 100 participants

On: May 1, 2020

Yesterday, Google made its premium Meet teleconferencing service free for all. Previously known as ‘Google Hangouts Meet,’ the video teleconferencing platform was exclusive to G-suite users before this. Close on the heels of this development, Reliance Jio has now rolled out its own alternative to the likes of Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

The new service from the Mukesh Ambani-led telecom operator is called JioMeet, which offers enterprise-grade video calling to its users. The company announced that JioMeet will be launched under its subsidiary Jio Platforms and will have a broader application than just providing video calling services. Here’s everything you need to know about the JioMeet app.

According to the company, the JioMeet app is a unique product that “will work on any device, any operating system, and it has an ability to do a complete collaboration.” However, as of now, only a handful of users seem to have the app available. At the time of writing this article, Reliance Jio seems to have removed the app listing from its website as well as app stores for some reason.

The older listing of the app on the Play Store revealed that while the app will allow 100 participants in a video call, only 5 can be added in the free version. Some features of the JioMeet app include HD calling, video call scheduling, and web browser support. The JioMeet platform will also offer apps for Windows, Mac, and plugin for Outlook

How to use JioMeet

While Reliance Jio has removed the app from Google Play Store and App Store as of now, we can expect it to be back up again. Once it’s available again, users will need to download the app from their respective app stores and sign up with their email ID and password, as a guest, or with an OTP. If you have been invited to a meeting, you will have to select guest and enter a username as well as the meeting ID link. Once you have signed up, you will be able to add your contacts who are already on JioMeet platform and others from the contact list by sending an invite.
