Reliance Jio has been in the news recently regarding the launch of its feature phone. At today’s RIL AGM, Jio has launched the much awaited JioPhone at a price of Rs. 0. You heard it right, the phone will be available at no cost to consumers. However, a security deposit of Rs. 1,500 has to be made while purchasing and the full amount will be refunded after 3 years.
The 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone will be available for user testing in beta from August 15th and for pre-booking starting August 24th. It can be ordered online via the MyJio app and can also be purchased offline through physical retail stores. Reliance claims that 5 million JioPhones will be available for purchase every week so as to meet the demands.
JioPhone comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA display and an alphanumeric keyboard. The phone also comes with an SD card slot for those who need it. All the basic features such as torchlight, FM radio, music player etc. are provided in the phone. Customers can access Jio apps including Jio Music and much more as well.
Even the recharge plans for the JioPhone seems quite lucrative. A meager recharge of Rs. 153 per month on the phone will provide users with free voice calls, unlimited data and complete access to all the Jio apps. Other recharge packs for the JioPhone has been introduced as well. A small recharge of Rs. 24 shall provide same benefits but for 2 days, another Rs. 54 recharge pack is available with a validity of a week.
Alternatively, Jio will also provide a TV cable which can connect to all kind of TV’s including CRT ones as well. This cable will allow users to broadcast live content right into their television sets. However, to avail this benefit, users would need to make a recharge of Rs. 309 per month.
Another superb addition to the JioPhone is the voice assistant. This feature will allow users to give voice commands and perform certain actions. Moreover, the voice commands can also be given in Hindi. This is a major accessibility advancement in the phone and shall be beneficial to a lot of customers. Through voice commands, the phone can perform basic tasks such as making calls, listening to music and even browsing the internet among others.
This seems like a remarkable phone in this segment and considering that it is free, there is nothing to lose.
