Renault Kiger EV poses for the cameras in new leak: Expected features, range, and price

Highlights

  • The Kiger EV will be shown off at the 2023 Auto Expo this month
  • Renault is likely to use the same powertrain as the Kwid EV
  • The electric SUV is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakhs when it is launched in the country

The Indian electric car market is expected to reach newer heights in 2023, aided by fresh launches from brands like Mahindra, Tata, MG, and Kia, to name a few. We can now add Renault to that list, with the company’s Kiger EV making an early appearance courtesy of a new leak. Expectedly, the EV bears some resemblance to the ICE version of the Renault Kiger, though there are some key differences, particularly in terms of design, as we’ll find out.

These images were first accessed by the YouTube channel Talking Cars, detailing the EV’s front and rear portions, including the uniquely positioned charging port located underneath the Renault logo in the front.

Renault Kiger EV expected features and  range

The Kiger EV’s specifications are unknown yet, but it’s safe to assume that it will use a similar powertrain as the Kwid EV, which currently sells in a number of global markets. This means the EV could feature a permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of delivering 44PS and 25 Nm of peak torque.

A 26.8 kWh battery should also be on board, capable of running for at least 250 km on a full charge. It also supports DC fast charging, which can take the battery from 30 to 80% in just 30 minutes. Standard charging would take approximately four hours to fully charge the EV.

Renault may choose to surprise us all and use a completely different powertrain with the Kiger EV. But since both the Kwid and Kiger are somewhat similar in terms of their performance, it’s a safer bet that Renault will leverage the same motor and battery combo.

The imminent arrival of the Kiger EV also indicates that it could be Renault’s first electric car in the country and not the Kwid EV as originally expected. We expect to learn more about the Kiger EV at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo.

Renault Kiger EV expected price

The ICE version of the Renault Kiger is currently available starting from Rs 6 lakhs (ex-showroom), maxing out at Rs 10.77 lakhs for the top-end model. Based on these figures, customers can expect a Rs 2-3 lakh premium for the electric version, potentially putting the entry-level Kiger EV well within the Rs 10 lakh threshold.
