Samsung Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s budget smartphones launched: price, specifications

Samsung has unveiled two new smartphones, the Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s. As the name suggests, the Galaxy A12 has arrived as the successor to the Galaxy A11 that went official earlier this year. On the other hand, the Galaxy A02s is a low-budget smartphone that has come in to replace the Galaxy A01 that was announced back in December 2019.

The Galaxy A12 comes with a refreshed rear panel design and it sports 48-megapixel quad cameras. The Galaxy A02s is equipped with a large display and triple rear cameras. Both phones are packed with huge batteries.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a 6.5-inch HD+ panel with an Infinity-V notch. It has a front 8-megapixel camera. The polycarbonate rear of the phone has a square-shaped camera module along with an LED flash. The camera setup comprises a 48-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel macro shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The Galaxy A12 is powered by an unknown 2.3GHz + 1.8GHz octa-core processor. A Geekbench listing of the phone that had appeared earlier this month had revealed that it could be driven by the Helio P35 chipset. The handset comes in multiple RAM options like 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB, and storage editions like 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. A microSD card slot is available for further expansion.

The Galaxy A12 runs Android 10 and it comes with support for Samsung Knox. It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security. Other specs of the phone include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone slot.

The Samsung Galaxy A02s also features a 6.5-inch HD+ panel with HD+ resolution. The display notch is home to a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The rectangular camera module placed on the plastic rear shell has a 13-megapixel main camera, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The Galaxy A02s has a 1.8GHz octa-core processor under its hood. Past reports have claimed that the device is equipped with the Snapdragon 450 mobile platform. The SoC is coupled with 3GB of RAM. It has a built-in storage of 32GB and a microSD card slot for expansion.

The Galaxy A02s also runs Android 10 and it comes with a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging. Other features include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It lacks a fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a starting price of €179 (~Rs 17,800) and it can be bought in colours like Black, Blue, White, and Red. The Galaxy A02s has a starting price tag of €149 (~Rs 13,100) and its colour variants are Black and White. The sales of the Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s will commence in European markets from January and February, respectively. Samsung is yet to confirm whether these devices will be arriving in India.
