As per recent reports, the Galaxy A5 was spotted in an online listing throwing some light on what is to come. The A-series smartphone lineup from Samsung is known to inherit features from its flagship devices and bear a not-so-fancy price tag. The upcoming 2018 version of the A5 is expected to follow this tradition as well. Let’s have a look at what we know so far.
The popular display setup that was seen on the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 is one of the major features that is expected to be featured on the upcoming A5. That’s right, the smartphone will rock an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and have thin bezels on all sides. Although being bezel-less, the phone may not have the curved edges that are found on its elder siblings. It will feature a more toned down bezel-less display; similar to what is available on the S8 Active.
Considering the fact that the front of the phone will be all display, the home button will be eliminated. The fingerprint sensor will be pushed to the rear-side of the phone where it will share real estate with the primary camera module. It is still unknown if Samsung will opt for the awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor analogous to the Note 8 or place it at a more reachable spot.
The report also stated that the international unlocked variant of the smartphone will go by the model number SM-A530F which also surfaced on the HTML5 Test website. Out of the box, the phone will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will see an update to Android Oreo later down the line. What lies underneath its hood is still not confirmed and is up for speculation. Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about these devices officially yet. The Galaxy A5 (2018) series is expected to drop in early next year. With this trend, the company may be looking to bring its Infinity Display to more budget smartphones in its portfolio as well.
