Last week Samsung expanded its A-series portfolio with the launch of its latest smartphone, the Galaxy A7 (2018) in the South Korean market. The device has now been launched in India, and notably, is the first Samsung smartphone with triple rear cameras. Let’s see what this device offers out of the box:
Display & Design:
The Galaxy A7 2018 features a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with thin bezels. The device sports a good blend of metal and glass offering a glossy and premium feel. The display is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The power button located on the right side doubles up as a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device. The rear camera is vertically stacked on the top left corner similar to the iPhone XS and Huawei P20 Pro. The smartphone ships in four colour variants i.e. Black, Blue, Gold and Pink.
The main USP of the Galaxy A7 (2018) is its camera. It has three cameras on the back, making it the first Samsung phone to sport this feature. The triple camera setup comprises of a 24MP primary snapper with f/1.7 aperture, 8MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The camera supports Live Focus feature which lets the user control the depth of field and adjust the bokeh effect. The Screen Optimizer feature from Galaxy Note 9 enables the camera to categorise subjects and adjust the color, contrasts and brightness to get the best picture possible. The Galaxy A7 (2018) houses a 24MP sensor on the front along with adjustable LED flash for better selfies in low light. It offers Pro Lighting mode and even AR Emoji.
Hardware, Battery & OS:
In terms of hardware, the Galaxy A7 (2018) is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 7885 processor. The is the first phone based on this chipset. The processor is coupled with two memory configurations i.e. 4GB+64GB, and 6GB+128GB. The memory can be expanded up to 512 GB via a microSD card.
The Galaxy A7 2018 is powered by a 3,300 mAh battery unit. The device runs Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box. Software features include Dolby Atmos for headphones, Bluetooth audio and Samsung Pay. As for connectivity, the A 7 (2018) offers 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS and NFC.
Pricing & Availability:
The Galaxy A7 (2018) will be available on September 27th and 28th exclusively on Flipkart, Samsung’s e-shop and at Samsung Opera House. From September 29th, the device will go on sale via offline and online platforms.
Samsung has priced the Galaxy A7 (2018) impressively. The base variant of 4GB+64GB carries a price tag of Rs 23,990 while the higher variant of 6GB+128GB retails at Rs 28,990. HDFC bank users can avail a cashback of Rs 2,000 on purchasing the smartphone.
Samsung’s new phone will challenge other mid-range devices like OnePlus 6, Honor 10, and Asus Zenfone 5Z. Notably, the flagship feature i. e. triple rear camera setup in a mid-range phone is what sets this phone apart from its competitors.
