Samsung Galaxy A80 with rotating camera and Snapdragon 730G announced

Samsung has launched its Galaxy A80 smartphone at a launch event in Bangkok. It comes with a rotating camera setup, in-display fingerprint sensor, Super AMOLED New Infinity display and 3,700mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy A80: specifications and features

The key feature of the smartphone is its sliding and rotating camera module, which functions both as a primary and selfie camera. When the selfie camera is activated, the triple rear cameras automatically pop-up from from the back and rotate to face forward. This is why the Samsung Galaxy A80 doesn’t need a notch or a punch-hole display to accommodate the selfie-shooter. It sports a 48MP + 8MP + 3D ToF configuration along with an LED Flash. While the main 48MP lens has an aperture of f/2.0, the ultra-wide 8MP lens has an f/2.2 aperture and 123-degree field of view. The 3D depth camera offers Live Focus videos by scanning objects for measurement and depth.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. The panel is all-screen with minimum bezels and a small chin, thanks to the sliding camera module. As mentioned above, the phone features an in-display fingerprint reader for security purposes. The phone is made out of 3D Glass and features a metallic frame. It sports dimensions of 165.2 x 76.5 x 9.3mm. The power button is placed on the right, while the volume buttons are located on the left of the frame. For performance, the smartphone is kitted with the AI-enhanced Snapdragon 730G octa-core processor, manufactured on an 8nm process and clocked at 2.2GHz. It features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card.

The phone runs Android 9.0 Pie withOne UI on the top, and has a 3,700mAh battery with Adaptive Power Saving Mode. It supports 25W Super Fast Charging, has a USB Type-C port, and features the Samsung Knox multi-layered security feature. Additionally, Bixby Routines learns app usage patterns so that it can automate everyday tasks for users. The phone comes in three shades – Angel Gold, Ghost White and Phantom Black.
