The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is now official as the first ever smartphone with four rear-mounted cameras. The handset boasts a premium appeal thanks to its 3D curved glass rear. Also, it features a powerful front-facing camera and a large notch-less display.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) features a sturdy aluminum frame placed between front and rear glass panels. The handset comes in colour gradient options – Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink. It measures 162.5 x 77 x 7.8 and weighs 183 grams.
The Galaxy A9 (2018) features a Super AMOLED screen of 6.3-inches. Like the premium phones from Samsung, the Galaxy A9 (2018) also sports 18.5:9 Infinity Display design. Even when the display is off, the smartphone can display key information such as notifications, clock, calendar and so on through Always-On Display function.
The 120-degree wide-angle 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture is placed right at the top of the quad camera system. It is followed by 10-megapixel f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens that supports 2x optical zoom.
The 24-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture comes third, and captures rich details during low-light photography. A 5-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture is responsible for adding depth to the images.
Samsung has included active AI photo analyser which is also available on the Galaxy A9. It can let the user known whether the captured image is blurry or if someone has blinked. The smartphone can detect 19 types of scenes such as food, portrait shots, night shots, landscapes, interiors, etc for capturing optimised photos. Sitting at the fronts of the Galaxy A9 (2018) is a 24-megapixel selfie camera.
The Snapdragon 660 chipset powers the device. It comes in RAM choices of 6GB and 8GB. Both models are packed with 128GB of internal storage. The memory card slot on the smartphone can support expansion up to 512GB.
A 3,800mAh battery is present inside the smartphone which can be charged through USB-C port on the device. Android 8.0 Oreo with Experience UI from Samsung is available on the smartphone. Samsung Pay, Bixby assistant, Samsung Health, Secure Folder, etc are all available on the device.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) features a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The front camera of the phone also offers a face unlock feature. The handset is equipped with connectivity features like 4G VoLTE, dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, NFC, GPS, USB-C and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Samsung is yet to confirm the pricing of the Galaxy A9 (2018). The handset is expected to be available in select markets early next month. It is speculated to be priced around 550 euros (~Rs. 47,000) in Europe. As far as the Indian release is concerned, the Galaxy A9 (2018) is slated to go official in the country in November.
