Samsung Galaxy A90 to reportedly feature Snapdragon 855, in-display fingerprint sensor and 5G support

If you are up to date with the happenings in the smartphone industry, you might know that there was speculation that the rumoured Samsung Galaxy A90 was speculated to debut under a new R-series. The rumour that came from the noted tipster, OnLeaks raised a lot of eyebrows since Samsung already has two new mid-range series in form of the Galaxy A and Galaxy M. It turns out there was a misunderstanding and Samsung has no plans to launch a brand-new R-series, but is indeed on track for the Galaxy A90 launch.

OnLeaks took to Twitter to share that his sources for the R-series launch confused the internal and commercial naming scheme for the upcoming smartphone. He went on to confirm that the devices mentioned in the earlier leak will indeed be launched as part of the Galaxy A-series and is likely to be the Galaxy A90. In a further tweet, the tipster reveals that there will two variants of the upcoming smartphone with model numbers SM-A905 and SM-A908. The difference between the two is that the former will feature better cameras with exclusive Tilt OIS tech, while the latter will have 5G support.

The most important reveal however is that both variants of the alleged Galaxy A90 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. However, there was no mention of the RAM and storage of the device. The leak also suggests that both variants of the phone will have a 6.7-inch display with an in-display fingerprint screen. It’s not clear whether the brand will opt for its proprietary ultrasonic fingerprint module or the more common optical unit. As for the cameras, the 5G variant will have a 48-megapixel primary camera accompanied by 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel shooters. The camera-focussed variant will have a 12-megapixel secondary shooter instead of the 8-megapixel unit. The latter will also have Tilt OIS feature, which is unheard of at the moment.

So far, this is all that is known about the upcoming smartphone except that it will flaunt a motorised camera module like the Galaxy A80. We should know more in the coming days, so stay tuned.
