Samsung Galaxy A9s and Galaxy A6s Officially Announced in China

The Samsung Galaxy A9s and Galaxy A6s smartphones have been announced in China. The new Galaxy A series of smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset and feature colour gradient glass bodies. At the launch event, the South Korean tech giant also confirmed that the forthcoming Galaxy A8s smartphone will be equipped with a new technology that has been never used before on any smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A9s Specifications and Features

The Samsung Galaxy A9s is the very same Galaxy A9 (2018) phone that was announced earlier in this month in Malaysia. It is the world’s first smartphone to feature four rear-mounted cameras. The quad camera setup includes an 8-megapixel 120-degree ultra wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and support for 2x optical zoom, a main sensor of 24-megapixels with f/.17 aperture and PDAF, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

The Galaxy A9s is fitted with a Super AMOLED of 6.3-inches. The Infinity Display design allows the A9s to produce an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and Full HD+ resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels. The front and rear panels of the Galaxy A9s are made out of glass. Its dimensions are 162.5 x 77 x 7.8mm and it weighs 183 grams.

The Snapdragon 660 powered Galaxy A9s comes in a single variant that features 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. For more storage, it has a microSD card slot. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung’s Experience UI on top. It is equipped with a front-facing camera of 24-megapixels. A fingerprint scanner is available on the rear shell of the phone. The handset receives power from a 3,800mAh battery which carries support for 10W charging.

The Galaxy A6s is the first ODM phone from the company. It is manufactured by China’s Wintech firm which also makes smartphones for Xiaomi. An interesting feature about this smartphone is that it does not feature a Super AMOLED display, which is a standard on Samsung handsets. Instead, it features an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.99 inches. It offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 and Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. Like the Galaxy A9s, it also features glass panels on its front and rear sides. The handset measures 156.3 x 76.5 x 8.4mm and weighs 183 grams.

A Snapdragon 660 SoC and 6 GB of RAM fuels the 128 GB and 64 GB storage editions of the Galaxy A6s. It has a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card. Samsung Experience UI based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS comes preinstalled on the phone. The handset receives power from 3,300mAh battery that carries support for 10W charging.

A vertically aligned 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup that has been optimized for capturing impressive low-light shots resides on the rear of the phone. The Galaxy A6s allows you to adjust background blur before as well as after shooting photos. At the front is a 12-megapixel selfie snapper. The handset is fitted with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Galaxy A9s carries a price tag of 3,499 Yuan (~Rs. 36,900) in China. Its color gradient variants are Caviar Black, Lemon Blue and Bubblegum Pink. Pre-orders of the smartphone have begun in China and its official sales are scheduled to begin on November 11th.

The Galaxy A6s 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variants are priced at 1,799 Yuan (~Rs. 19,000) and 2,199 Yuan (~Rs. 23,200) respectively. It can be bought in color gradient options such as Black, Blue, Purple and Red. The handset is also available for pre-orders in China. Its shipments will begin on November 1st.

The Galaxy A9 (2018) is speculated to go official in India on November 4th. There is no information on whether the Galaxy A6s will be made available outside of China. As far as the upcoming Galaxy A8s is concerned, industry experts from China are claiming that it may feature a full screen design with a small hole for the selfie camera.
