Samsung re-enters India’s PC market to face competition and create ecosystem
“Consumer PC market has seen healthy growth in the last 2 years since pandemic began, majorly due to use cases like e-learning and work from home. Considering that it is not too late to enter the consumer PC market as such. With things opening up now, consumer market is expected to see some tapering off in 2022. Of course in that sense, it would have been beneficial to enter in late 2020 or 2021,” Navkendar Singh, Research Director, IDC, told Pricebaba in an emailed statement.
The re-entry of Samsung in India’s PC market comes after smartphone makers like Xiaomi and Infinix entered the segment and Lenovo diversified its product range. However , IDC’s Singh could follow a strategy similar to that of Apple to create an ecosystem play with its new laptops in the country.
“While incumbents have a very strong product portfolio, design and consumer mindshare, there is an opportunity considering the huge brand appeal of Samsung. It can certainly appeal to a set of consumers who really like Samsung’s smartphone range. Samsung has the opportunity to build an integrated multi device play (like Apple) by software integrations within its smartphone, laptop and wearables device range,” Singh adds.
