Samsung held its Unpacked 2020 event in San Francisco today. At the event, the company introduced its latest Galaxy S series flagships, the Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra, and its latest foldable phone dubbed the Galaxy Z Flip. Apart from the new phones, the South Korean tech giant has also announced its latest audio accessory called the Galaxy Buds+. The wearable is the successor to the last year’s Galaxy Buds, which were unveiled alongside the Galaxy S10 series. The new Galaxy Buds+ have a slightly different design than its predecessor, but pack improvements on the hardware level.
Samsung Galaxy Buds+ specifications and features
The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ are fitted with two-way speakers, which are tuned by popular audio brand AKG. The audio accessory has three microphones on each earbud as compared to two available on its predecessor. The additional microphone onboard the new Galaxy Buds should be able to provide increased quality while making voice calls. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t equipped the earbuds with active noise cancellation. Notably, the Galaxy Buds+ are equipped with a dual-driver audio setup. They are IPX2 rated for splash/sweat resistance, and compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones.
The buds have Bluetooth 5 connectivity to let you connect them to multiple compatible devices. There are touchpads on the earbuds, which let you play, pause, skip songs, and control volume. In addition, the Galaxy Buds+ have to ability to let you control audio playback on the Spotify app through the touchpads. Notably, each of the earbuds have 85mAh batteries, while the wireless case has a 270mAh battery. The brand claims that the earbuds can provide 11 hours of battery life on a single charge. With the charging case, the battery life goes up to 22 hours. A three-minute charge provides 60 minutes of play back, according to Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy Buds+ pricing and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ have been priced at $149 (~Rs 10,630), which is $20 higher than the previous-gen earbuds. The new Galaxy Buds will be available in four colour variants – Cosmic Black, White, Cloud Blue, and Red. They will go on sale starting February 14th in the US. Samsung will be bundling the Buds+ for users who pre-order the Galaxy S20+ and S20 Ultra.
