Samsung held a virtual Unpacked event today where it unveiled a range of devices including the flagship Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy Buds Pro. The latest TWS earphones follow the Galaxy Buds Live that launched in August last year.
“With Galaxy Buds Pro, we’re making a big statement with a small device, offering users a one-of-a-kind audio experience that makes even everyday tasks truly epic” said Samsung Electronics President TM Roh. The latest audio device packs incremental upgrades compared to the Galaxy Buds Live.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro specifications and features
The design of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is based on Galaxy Buds Live’s innovative and iconic canal-type shape. However, the South Korean brand claims that the latest offering features an updated and ergonomic form factor. The Buds Pro is IPX7 rated water-resistant. Samsung has also added Wind Shield technology that filters out wind sound via a specially designed chamber and mesh.
In terms of audio, the Galaxy Buds Pro are equipped with 11mm woofers for deeper bass and 6.5mm tweeters for crisper treble. It houses three microphones and a Voice Pickup Unit (VPU) for clear sound quality and the ability to separate the user’s voice from unwanted sounds. One of the outside mics has a high signal-to-noise ratio for eliminating background noise.
The Galaxy Buds Pro features active noise cancellation (ANC) that is claimed to eliminate up to 99 percent background noise. Users can choose to amplify the surrounding sound by more than 20dB with Ambient sound mode. The ANC and ambient mode will automatically detect and turn down the music when the user wants to talk. The earbuds also feature 360-degree audio based on Dolby Head Tracking technology that is similar to Apple’s Spatial Audio.
The Galaxy Buds Pro can be found with the help of SmartThings Find when they are out of Bluetooth range or out of sight. The wireless earbuds also come with a new feature called Auto Switch for connecting two Samsung devices simultaneously for a seamless experience, like a tablet and phone.
Each earbud of Galaxy Buds Pro is backed by a 61mAh battery unit while the charging case houses a 427mAh battery. Each earbud can last up to 5 hours with the ANC turned on and 8 hours with ANC disabled. With the case, the wireless earbuds are capable of offering up to 18 hours (ANC) and 28 hours (ANC off) battery life respectively. The device supports fast charging and Qi-certified wireless charging. A 5-minute quick charge is said to offer 1 hour playback time. The Galaxy Buds Pro are compatible with Android 7.0+ devices.
