If you have not been living under the rock, the Samsung Galaxy Fold became the first commercially launched foldable smartphone from a major brand. However, it soon ran into display issues like the prominent crease in the middle and display dying entirely on many units. Samsung went back to the drawing board and relaunched the handset with a better display, albeit with the same plastic screen. Things are about to change as rumours suggest, the Galaxy Fold 2 set to launch in February 2020 might come with a glass display.
It can be confirmed that the Galaxy Fold2 leaked not long ago will use an ultra-thin glass cover for the first time in the world, replacing plastic materials. The screen looks flatter and has less wrinkles. In fact, this is the correct cover material for foldable phones. pic.twitter.com/BS73BCsA4N

The use of plastic display on the current crop of foldable smartphones is solely because of the fact that the material can bend and thus is ideal for folding. On the flip side, the glossy plastic is extremely prone to scratches and also shows the folding crease prominently. This has been an issue with every foldable smartphone we have seen so far. However, according to @IceUniverse, Samsung is about to go next level with the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2. If the rumours are to be believed, there will be an “ultra-thin glass cover” on top of the display. Recently, a trademark for the ‘Ultra-Thin Glass’ was spotted in Europe and there were rumours that the chaebol might use the same for the next generation Galaxy Fold. If these reports are indeed true, Galaxy Fold 2 might become the first foldable phone with a better glass screen.
For the uninitiated, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will reportedly come with a clamshell design, which we have already seen on the Motorola razr 2019. The smartphone was recently spotted in several live images revealing key details of the design. The handset was seen sporting a punch-hole display and dual cameras on the back. There was also a small screen on the outside for notifications like time and weather etc. Rumours suggest that the Fold 2 is likely to feature a 6.7-inch foldable display and a cover display measuring 1-inch or 2-inch. Other rumoured specs include a 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX primary lens and the latest Exynos processor. Unfortunately, not much is known at this point.
There are reports that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could be launched on February 18th at the Galaxy Unpacked Event. We will know more about the handset closer to the launch date, so stay tuned.
