Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled its second foldable smartphone called the Galaxy Z Flip. Now, the South Korean brand is reportedly working on the second-generation Galaxy Fold 2. It will arrive as the successor to last year’s original Galaxy Fold. The company hasn’t confirmed anything about its upcoming foldable smartphone. However, a new report from Aju Daily claims that the Galaxy Fold 2 is codenamed ‘Champ’ and will feature under-display camera technology. This will make the Galaxy Fold 2 as the industry-first smartphone to arrive with such technology if the report turns out to be true.
Ultra-thin glass (UTG) from Schott is their best hope then. First on Galaxy Z Flip. Then on Galaxy Fold 2 which is now known as Project Champ and should come mid-year. It will fold out to 7.7” but will be quite a bit more expensive than the more portable clamshells…

Under display camera technology will enable smartphone OEMs to get rid of display notches, punch-hole cutouts and even pop-up modules. Last year, OPPO and Xiaomi had demonstrated under-display camera technology but are yet to release devices with the same tech. Last October we had also reported that Samsung is working on a smartphone with this tech. A tweet by Ross Young, Founder/CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), claims that the Galaxy Fold 2 will sport a slightly larger 7.7-inch screen when unfolded. The device is rumoured to be equipped with Ultra-Thin Glass that is found on the Galaxy Z Flip. XDA Developer’s Max Weinbach said in a tweet that the Fold 2 could borrow the quad-camera setup from the S20+ and come with a new type of S-pen.
Galaxy Fold 2: front cover is infinity V display. Main is either hole punch or under display camera. New form of SPen. S20+ camera setup. Ceramic and stainless steel. Will come in Blue, Silver, Gold, Pink, Black.

Both the sources claim that the Galaxy Fold 2 will reportedly launch around July this year. The smartphone is expected to be priced slightly higher than the original Galaxy Fold. Readers are advised to take this information lightly as the Fold 2 is months away from announcement.
In case you missed it, the Galaxy Z Flip is Samsung’s second foldable smartphone after the Galaxy Fold. It comes with a clamshell design that can be folded vertically. The design is similar to Motorola Razr (2019) and can be used in closed mode, open mode and flex mode. You can read about the Z Flip in detail here.
