Samsung has sold 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold

The Galaxy Fold was the first foldable phone from Samsung. While it was introduced through a launch event in February, it did not go on sale immediately, since early reviewers reported technical issues on their review units, particularly pertaining to the display. The Galaxy Fold faced a delayed market release in September. Despite this, Samsung claims it has sold over one million units of the Galaxy Fold.

Samsung Electronics President Young Sohn revealed at the TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin event that that the company had sold a million units of the Galaxy Fold. Considering the fact that the Galaxy Fold an expensive device priced at $2000 and it is available in limited regions, the 1 million sales figure is quite impressive. In fact, its sales have exceeded expectations as it was estimated to sell 500,000 units in October.

Samsung has set a goal to sell 6 million foldable phones in 2020. In order to achieve, Samsung may introduce another foldable phone alongside the Galaxy S11 in February. It is speculated that the next foldable phone from Samsung will be sporting a clamshell design like the Motorola Razr. It is expected to hit the market with a lower pricing of about $1,000.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Specifications and Price in India

The Samsung Galaxy Fold has an outer AMOLED screen of 4.6 inches with HD+ resolution. Placed above it is a 10-megapixel selfie camera. Opening the device reveals its inner flexible AMOLED display of 7.3-inches that produces full HD+ resolution. At its top right corner is a 10-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual camera setup.

The Galaxy Fold is powered by the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and 12GB of RAM. It offers users 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. There is no microSD card slot on the device. The One UI 2.0 based Android 9 Pie OS runs on the device.

The Galaxy Fold has a triple camera setup on its back. It has an OIS assisted 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, an OIS enabled 12-megapixel telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom and a 16-megapixel ultrawide sensor. The device is backed by 4,380mAh battery. It supports 15W rapid charging and 15W fast wireless charging. The foldable phone also supports 9W reverse wireless charging. Other features of the device include AKG tuned stereo speakers, side-mounted fingerprint reader, NFC, USB-C and the usual connectivity options. It lacks a 3.5mm audio jack. In India, the Galaxy Fold is priced at Rs. 1,64,999 and it can be bought in Cosmos Black and Space Silver colour options.
