Samsung Galaxy J2 Core 2020 with Android Oreo (Go Edition) launched in India for Rs 6,299

Samsung has quietly announced a new J-series smartphone for the Indian market, the Galaxy J2 Core 2020. The smartphone has been listed on Samsung’s official website for India. It is the successor to the Galaxy J2 Core that was announced back in 2018 for a similar price. Despite listing the new model, Samsung hasn’t made any major upgrades to the 2020 edition. In fact, it still runs the outdated Android Oreo (Go Edition) that the original J2 Core was launched with. There’s no update on the design front as well, with thick bezels above and below the screen and no fingerprint sensor. The only noticeable difference is in the storage department, which has been bumped up to 16GB, from 8GB earlier.

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core 2020 features outdated specifications and design

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core 2020 features a compact 5-inch LCD display. It features an abysmal qHD (not to be confused with QHD) resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Powering the phone is a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 7570 processor, paired with just 1GB of RAM. As mentioned earlier, the inbuilt storage has been doubled to 16GB, out of which you get about 11GB out of the box. There is a dedicated microSD card slot on the device, which lets you expand the storage up to 256GB.

As for the cameras, you get a single shooter at the rear which is an 8MP unit with f/2.2 aperture, autofocus and an accompanying LED flash. In the front, there’s a 5MP f/2.2 camera for selfies. The rear camera can record video in 1080p at 30fps.

The connectivity features available include dual SIM slots, but these are both outdated micro-SIM sizes, instead of the nano-SIMs widely used today. Other features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 (2.4GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, Glonass and Beidou. A 3.5mm audio jack is present, as well as a micro-USB port. The battery is a 2,600mAh unit, which Samsung claims can offer up to 12 hours of video playback and 22 hours of talk-time over 4G LTE. The battery is also removable, if that’s something that interests you.

As mentioned previously, the phone runs Android Oreo (Go Edition). There’s a Smart Manager on board as well, which lets you directly install apps on your memory card and save your inbuilt storage.
