In September 2019, Samsung had launched the Galaxy M30s smartphone. It came with an impressive 48-megapixel triple camera system and a massive battery of 6,000mAh capacity. The South Korean company today announced the Galaxy M31 phone in India. The phone retains a couple of features like tall aspect ratio, 6,000mah battery and Exynos 9611 from its predecessor. The M31 however, seems to excel in the camera department as it features an improved selfie camera and a 64-megapixel quad-camera system.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 has a 6.4-inch S-AMOLED display with Infinity-U notch that outputs full HD+ (1,080 x 2,340 pixels) resolution. The 19.5:9 tall aspect ratio display offers 420 nits of brightness and 100000:1 contrast ratio, and ability to automatically adjust depending on the lighting conditions.
The 10nm Exynos 9611 chipset that includes a 2.3GHz octa-core processor and ARM Mali G72 MP3 graphics powers the Galaxy M31 handset. The same SoC was used to power the Galaxy M30s. The Galaxy M31 comes with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. For expanding its storage, users can add up to 512GB of microSD card. The Galaxy M31 is loaded with Android 10 OS that is customised with the latest One UI 2.0 from Samsung.
The rectangular camera module features an f/2.2 aperture 5-megapixel depth camera with Live Focus support, and alongside it is an f/2.4 aperture 5-megapixel macro lens with a focal length of 4cm. Below the depth sensor is an f/1.8 aperture 64-megapixel main lens and an f/2.2 aperture 8-megapixel ultrawide shooter with 123-degree field-of-view. The main lens is equipped with Night Mode for capturing brighter shots in dim light conditions. The Galaxy M31 can be also used to capture 4K videos. There is Super Steady mode onboard for shooting jerk-free videos. Other video recording features available on the smartphone include Super Slo-Mo and Hyperlapse modes. It has a front-facing camera of 32-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture. The predecessor model had featured a 16-megapixel selfie snapper.
The Galaxy M31 is packed with a gargantuan battery of 6,000mAh capacity like the Galaxy M30s phone. The inclusion of the huge battery should allow it to easily last for up to 2 days. The phone promises 119 hours of music playback, 48 hours of talk time, 26 hours of video playback and 21 hours of web browsing. The handset ships with a 15W fast charger. A fingerprint reader can be found on the back of the Galaxy M31. The other connectivity features that are available on the device include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C and 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone measures 159.2 x 75.1 x 8.9mm and 191 grams.

The Galaxy M31 has arrived in India in two versions – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. These models are priced at Rs 14,999 and Rs 15,999, respectively. The handset can be bought in Ocean Blue and Space Black colours. The smartphone will be available from March 5 at 12 PM via Amazon India, Samsung India website, and offline retail stores across India.
