Samsung’s Galaxy M series has targeted the Indian smartphone market as a legitimate competitor to brands like Xiaomi. With an affordable price of Rs 19,990, decent features and an Infinity-O display, the Samsung Galaxy M40 is the newest entry in the mid-range segment. Let’s look at the top five features of the smartphone:

1. A full screen Infinity-O display

The display panel on the Galaxy M40 measures 6.3-inches in size with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. For protection, it has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The punch-hole selfie camera is placed on the top-left corner of the display and hence, a notch isn’t required. The screen to body ratio of the device is 84.71 percent, while the pixel density is 403ppi. The latest offering by Samsung is also laced with a Screen Sound technology thanks to which, the display emits sound through vibrations, functioning as a speaker. Additionally, the screen comes with Widevine L1 support, allowing you to stream content from Netfix and Prime Video in full HD.

2. Powerful internals

The Samsung Galaxy M40 is kitted with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor, clocked at 2GHz. The performance is further handled by the Adreno 612 GPU which could help in producing decent graphics. The processor has a sufficient 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded through a microSD card. With the capable processor and plenty of RAM, the device is likely to perform well for daily use. Additionally, the phone is the first one in the Galaxy M series to run Android 9.0 Pie with OneUI on top.

3. A capable camera set up

The first thing that strikes you on seeing the Galaxy M40 is its punch-hole display that houses the 16MP selfie camera. At the back, you can find a triple camera configuration with a 32MP primary sensor, 5MP depth sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens. The configuration is capable of recording 4K and Slo-mo videos.

4. Good battery backup with support for Fast Charging

The battery capacity of the phone is 3,500mAh which should suffice for medium to heavy daily usage – Samsung says it offers about two days of use. The Samsung Galaxy M40 also carries support for 15W Fast Charging. That said, the battery capacity of the phone is still considerably smaller than Samsung’s lower-budgeted Galaxy M20 which carries a 5,000mAh capacity.

5. Bundled USB Type-C headphones and an affordable price point

Samsung’s decision to not include a 3.5mm headphone jack on the Galaxy M40 could is disappointing, but the company has made up for it by bundling free USB Type-C headphones in the box. With its good design, powerful interiors and impressive cameras, it is a compelling alternative to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro in this price range.
