Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra launched: price, specifications

Samsung held an online-only global event to announce the Galaxy Note 20 series of flagship phones, comprising the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Compared to the last year’s models, the Note 20 duo feature improved performance and better cameras.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the first Note-series smartphone to feature a 120Hz refresh rate display. The S Pen stylus has also been upgraded to offer a real pen-like experience. The new Note phones are also optimized to support high-end games.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra specifications and features

The Galaxy Note 20 has a 6.7-inch S-AMOLED Plus flat screen that supports a 20:9 aspect ratio, Full HD+ resolution, and 60Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra’s 6.9-inch curved S-AMOLED Dynamic display features a 19.3:9 aspect ratio, QHD resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screens of both phones have Infinity-O punch-hole designs and they are embedded with ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the world’s first smartphone to feature the latest Gorilla Glass 7 protection. The display of Note 20 has Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Both phones feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Snapdragon 865 Plus or Exynos 990 SoC along with LPPDR5 RAM fuels the Galaxy Note 20 duo. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has up to 12GB of RAM and 128GB / 256 GB / 512GB of USF 3.0 storage. Its LTE version comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Galaxy Note 20 5G edition comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Its LTE variant has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Note 20 lacks a microSD card slot, whereas the Ultra model features it.

The Note 20 houses a 4,300mAh battery whereas the Ultra model is packed with a larger 4,500mAh battery. Both phones can gain 50 percent battery in just 30 minutes using the 25W fast charging technology. These phablets also come with support for wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are equipped with a 10-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual-pixel autofocus. The Note 20’s rear-facing camera setup includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and dual-pixel autofocus, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with 120-degree FOV, and a 64-megapixel telephoto shooter. The Note 20 supports 3x hybrid optical zoom, up to 30x super-resolution zoom, Space Zoom and OIS.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a 108-megapixel main camera with f/2.2 aperture and dual-pixel autofocus a 12-megapixel periscope lens with f/3.0 aperture, and a 120-degree 12-megapixel superwide lens with f/2.0 aperture. The Note 20 Ultra offers photography features like laser autofocus, 5x optical zoom, up to 50x super-resolution zoom, Space Zoom, OIS, and laser autofocus.

The One UI 2.5 based Android 10 OS runs on the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. The S Pen that accompanies Note 20 offers a latency of 26 milliseconds, but the advanced S Pen for Note 20 Ultra promises regular pen-like feel since its response rate is less than 9 milliseconds. When it comes to gaming, the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are designed to function like portable gaming console as they support Microsoft’s Project xCloud and Xbox Games Pass. The Note 20 series comes with AKG-tuned stereo speakers.

Depending on the market, the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will be available in 4G or 5G versions. Both phones offer connectivity features such dual SIM support, eSIM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, dual-frequency GPS, and GPS. The Note 20 models support Wireless DeX through which uses can take advantage of full-blown desktop PC experience by wirelessly establishing connection with an external display. Lastly, the Note 20 Ultra comes with Ultra Wide Band (UWB) chip for device-to-device connections and fast file transfers.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 pricing and availability

The Galaxy Note 20 is priced at €999 (~Rs 88,700) for the 8GB+128GB base model in Europe and it comes in colours like Mystic Bronze, Mystic Gray, and Mystic Green. On the other side, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra costs €1,299 (~Rs 1,15,400) for the 8GB+128GB mode and €1,499 (~Rs 1,33,100) for the 12GB+512GB edition. It can be availed in colours like Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black.

The India pricing and launch date are not known as yet.
