Exclusive: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G renders reveal punch-hole display and triple rear cameras

Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S10 Lite, a watered-down version of its Galaxy S10 flagship. The device retained some of the key features of the Galaxy S10, including the Snapdragon 855 chipset, but came in at a far more affordable price point. Following the launch of the Galaxy S20 series this year, it seemed natural for Samsung to follow suit with the Galaxy S20 Lite.

Multiple reports have corroborated the existence of this phone and revealed several of its specifications. We can now confirm that the phone will be called the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G, with the “FE” an abbreviation of Fan Edition. We’ve also obtained some key details about the device, along with high-resolution 5K renders and a 360-degree video, courtesy of tipster OnLeaks.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G renders

As expected, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G looks very similar to the standard Galaxy S20. It features a flat display, which curves very slightly towards the left and right edges. The screen measures between 6.4 and 6.5-inches, and there’s a single centred punch-hole for the selfie camera.

The frame of the device is constructed from shiny metal, while the black panel is likely to be a frosted/matte plastic. The dimensions of the device are roughly 161 x 73 x 8mm.

As for the back panel, there’s a rectangular camera module on the top left corner housing three cameras, a flash and a microphone. Coming to the ports and buttons, the power button and volume rocker are on the left, while the bottom edge houses a USB Type-C port, loudspeaker and single microphone. The ejectable SIM card tray is located at the top. As expected, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack. An in-display fingerprint sensor is pretty much a given, judging by previous Galaxy S-series phones.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G specifications and features

Given that the Galaxy S10 Lite was powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, it’s safe to assume that the Galaxy S20 FE 5G will feature the Snapdragon 865. A Geekbench listing also confirmed this, along with 6GB RAM and Android 10. We expect an 8GB RAM variant to be on the cards as well, with the storage going up to 512GB. As for the software, the phone should run the latest OneUI 2.5 interface.

Coming to the cameras, a tweet by tipster Ice Universe revealed that the phone will feature a 12MP Sony IMX555 primary camera, the same sensor used on the Galaxy S20. The other sensors are expected to comprise a 12MP ultra-wide camera and 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The front camera could be a 32MP unit. Ice Universe also claimed that the phone will feature a 120Hz display and IP68 certification for water-resistance.

A report by GalaxyClub revealed that the battery will be a beefy 4,500mAh unit, and fast charging can be expected. The same publication also tipped colour variants like red, white, green and orange.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G pricing and availability

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G will reportedly to be priced at $750 (~Rs 56,000) and launch in October, as per South Korean publication, The Elec. This price is significantly higher than the Galaxy S10 Lite, which was launched in India for Rs 39,999.

Samsung is expected to launch 4G versions of the Galaxy S20 FE as well, and if this is the case, cheaper options with a different chipset could be on the cards.
