Exclusive: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra model numbers, codename revealed well before launch

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to go official with the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23 Pro in Q1 2023. So far, the rumour mill has revealed some information on the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s chipset, battery, and rear camera setup.  It is expected to arrive as the company’s first smartphone with a 200-megapixel camera.

The S23 Ultra is expected to feature the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It is speculated to house the same battery that is available on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Pricebaba through our trusted tipster Paras Guglani (aka Passionate Geekz) have learned more details about this upcoming smartphone. The firmware data of the S23 Ultra has surfaced online. As can be seen in the screenshot below, the firmware data has revealed its name, codename, and model numbers.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra model numbers, codename

The Galaxy S23 Ultra firmware has revealed that it has a “DM3” codename, and its model number is SM-S918. As can be seen in the screenshot above, model numbers such as SM-S918BDS, SM-S918U, SM-S918U1, and SM-S918W are all associated with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra rumours have revealed that it will be equipped with a Quad HD+ AMOLED display with LTPO technology. Hence, it will support a 1Hz–120Hz refresh rate. It is expected to feature an autofocus-enabled 40-megapixel front-facing camera.

The rear camera setup of the phone will feature an OIS-enabled 200-megapixel Samsung HP2 main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom and OIS support, and a 10-megapixel periscope zoom camera with 10x optical zoom.

Reports have claimed that there will be no Exynos variant of the S23 Ultra. In other words, all the markets will be receiving the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 edition of the device. The S23 Ultra will come with a 5,000mAh battery, which may support 45W fast charging. It is also expected to support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

The S23 Ultra will come preloaded with Android 12 OS and One UI 5.0. For security, it will feature an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner.
