The Galaxy S8+ is Samsung’s flagship smartphone launched in 2017. The device was launched in India at Rs 64,900. Now the smartphone has received a permanent price cut of Rs 12,000. The news is reported by Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom who tweeted about the price cut. The retailer has a good track record of reporting price cuts of other brands in the past.

The Galaxy S8+ prices have been slashed twice since its launch. The recent price cut was in April 2018 which brought down the price of device to Rs 53,990. The new price tag of Rs 39,990 seems to be limited to offline markets now. At the time of writing this article, the price cut has not reflected online yet. The Galaxy S8+ is still being retailed at Rs 51,990 on online portals like Samsung’s online store and Flipkart. The company is offering instant cashbacks on their e-store. The offers include cashback of Rs 4,000 online and also comes with Rs 4,000 cashback for HDFC credit card holders. There is an additional Rs 4,000 exchange value offer on selected smartphone models.

To recall the technical specifications, the Galaxy S8+ sports a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED bezel-less display. The display has a 18:9 aspect ratio for immersive viewing experience. A Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is coated on the top of display for protection against accidental damage. The device is IP68 rated dust and water resistant. Design-wise the S8+ flaunts a glass & metal unibody which feels premium. It ships in 5 attractive colors i.e. Maple Gold, Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, & Arctic Silver.

Under the hood, the S8+ is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 processor coupled with either 4GB or 6GB RAM variants depending on the user’s needs. The former comes with 64GB internal storage while the later offers 128GB internal memory. The storage is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card slot. Out of the box, the S8+ runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS which is upgradeable to the latest Android 8.1 Oreo.

In the camera department, the Galaxy S8+ houses a 12MP rear camera with LED flash. The camera features OIS and PDAF system that enhance pictures in low light conditions. Upfront, there is a 8MP front camera for clicking selfies. The rear camera also offers 4k video recording.

The Galaxy S8+ is backed by a 3500 mAh non-removable battery. It offers support for wireless and fast charging. Connectivity-wise, the device functions as a dual SIM smartphone and offers all the basic options like 4G, 3G, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth & VoLTE.

There is no official comment from Samsung regarding the price cut yet and whether if it is temporary or permanent. The new price tag of Samsung Galaxy S9+ will pit it against the likes of mid-budget flagship smartphones like OnePlus 6, Zenfone 5Z, and Honor 10. It will be interesting to see how the device performs against these phones in the market.
