Key Highlights

– Galaxy S8 and S8+ might launch in India on April 19th.
– Both the phones have Iris scanner and facial recognition.
– Samsung DeX is unlikely to launch in India just yet.

Finally, Samsung seems prepared to release the Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagship duo in India. The company has released a teaser on social media indicating that both the phones will be available in the country soon. Even though Samsung India hasn’t specified the exact date so far, reports suggest they’ll launch as soon as April 19th, two days before they go on sale in the US. To recall, both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were unveiled at Samsung Unpacked event held in New York last month. (Also read: Top announcements from March 29th Samsung Unpacked event).

Starting with the display, both the phones have some extra real estate by reducing the size of bezels at both top and bottom. As a result, you get an ample amount of display in a comparatively smaller form factor. Specs-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ sport a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen respectively, featuring 2960 x 1440 Quad HD resolution. Both of them also come with a protective layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 up front.

Interestingly, a home button is now embedded underneath the display with some haptic feedback whereas the fingerprint scanner is moved to the back next to the camera. Both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ house a 12-megapixel dual-pixel rear camera and 8MP selfie camera. Inside are an octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor and Samsung Exynos processor (depending upon the market), 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal memory. The storage is further expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card support.

For security, Samsung now offers Iris scanner and facial recognition in addition to several other standard features like a fingerprint scanner, pattern lock, and password. Both the devices are IP68 rated dust and water resistant and have Android Nougat operating system out of the box. The Galaxy S8 packs a 3000mAh battery whereas the Galaxy S8+ packs a 3500mAh battery. They also have a separate dedicated button to trigger Bixby — Samsung’s response to Google Assistant and Apple Siri.

The phones aside, Samsung also unveiled new Gear 360, Connect, and DeX last month. Samsung, however, is unlikely to bring DeX PC dock to India just yet given that there is no mention of DeX as of now.
