Samsung is always the first one to kick-off the year by launching its flagship device. Carrying the same ritual forward, the South Korean giant has released the press invitation for the launch of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. The event is scheduled for February 25th, just a day before Mobile World Congress (2018) begins. The invite hints towards a ‘reimagined’ camera with the number ‘9’ indicating it to be the next upgrade in the Galaxy S series.
Along with the invite, Samsung said, “If a picture is worth a thousand words, the latest member of the Galaxy family has a lot to say. On February 25, Samsung Electronics will showcase the next generation of Galaxy devices that reimagines the camera and redefines the way you share your moments.”
Clearly, Samsung is aiming to win big in the camera department with the upcoming Galaxy flagship. It is also possible that the S9 duo might have a single camera with advanced capabilities, similar to what we saw in the Pixel 2 last year. But rumours claim that the phones will continue to have dual-rear cameras. Samsung had also launched the ISOCELL module last year which helps in clicking better low light pictures. It also allows to capture multiple exposures in a single shot.
Previous rumours have also claimed that it will have an f/1.5 aperture rear camera, which is currently unheard of in smartphones. Samsung is known to make sensors with low apertures and it won’t be surprising if they fit an f/1.5 lens. The sensor might also have the capability to record super slow-motion videos up to 480fps.
Talking of other specifications, a Geekbench listing had indicated that the phone will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Just like previous Samsung flagships, there will be another variant with Samsung’s in-house Exynos processor. Most likely, it will be the recently launched Exynos 9810 chipset that comes with artificial intelligence capabilities and better face recognition ability. We might also get to witness a 512GB internal storage models in some selected markets. But the normal 64GB and 128GB models will be available throughout the world.
The phone will be launched exactly a month from now and the hype seems to be catching on. Stay tuned to know more about the phone in the upcoming weeks.
