Samsung has launched a new tablet today in the Indian market. The Galaxy Tab Active2 was launched last year in the US and is a rugged device. The tablet is listed under the ‘Business’ category and is targeted at enterprises.
The Galaxy Tab Active2 features an 8-inch TFT display bearing a 1200 x 800 pixels resolution. It features Enhanced Touch options that enable operating the device with wet hands . One can also use the device with gloves by turning on the Glove mode. The Tab Active2 is equipped with MIL-STD-840G certification and IP68 dust and water resistance which allow the device to withstand harsh working conditions. Samsung claims that the device has been tested in 21 elements ranging from salt fog, icing, humidity, ballistic shock and transit drop. The Galaxy Tab Active2 is capable of surviving for half an hour under 1.5-metre deep water. It also comes with an anti-shock cover that protects the device from accidental drops and shocks.
As for the hardware, the Galaxy Tab Active2 is powered by a 1.6GHz Samsung Exynos 7870 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB RAM. It offers 16GB internal memory with a microSD card slot. The device sports an 8MP rear snapper and 5MP front-facing camera that also offers a face unlock feature. It also features a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button for securely unlocking the device. The tablet comes with S Pen support that helps in jotting down notes and/or sketching. The Tab Active2 comes with AR capabilities that allow users to digitally simulate wiring, pipeline design and data acquisition. Samsung says the AR features can be used for site planning by mining, refinery, manufacturing and construction sectors. The tablet is also capable of managing timecards and daily reports for field users.
The Galaxy Tab Active2 comes with Samsung’s proprietary Knox security platform that protects sensitive information from malware and hackers.
The Galaxy Tab Active2 packs a 4,450 mAh replaceable battery that is claimed to deliver up to 11 hours of battery life. The device features a POGO pin connector on its side for connecting and charging other devices or attaching accessories like external keyboards. The tablet houses various sensors like Accelerometer, Magnetometer, GPS, Gyroscope and Proximity to allow governments and corporates to record various types of data.

The Galaxy Tab Active2 is launched with a price tag of Rs 50,990. The device will be available for purchase in India from mid-March.
