Samsung Unveils Galaxy Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Tab Active2 in India, a rugged tablet meant for enterprises. Now, the company has announced two new tablets dubbed as the Galaxy Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1. The former is touted to be Samsung’s slimmest tablet while the later is a refreshed version of its existing Galaxy Tab A. Let’s take a look below at both the devices:

Galaxy Tab S5e:

The Tab S5e is the thinnest tablet in the company’s lineup measuring just 5.5mm. Design-wise, it flaunts a metallic unibody frame and slim bezels which look similar to iPad Pro 2018. The device sports a 10.5-inch display bearing a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It is fitted with a Super AMOLED panel on the top. The Galaxy Tab S5e is also equipped with four AKG tuned speakers powered by Dolby Atmos technology. It can be availed in three colour options – Silver, Black and Gold. 

In the optics department, the Tab S5e comes with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front shooter. The front camera also doubles up as a face recognition feature for additional security. The device runs the latest Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Samsung has also included its virtual digital assistant Bixby for controlling connected home devices.

On the hardware front, the Tab S5e is equipped with a Snapdragon 670 processor under the hood. The device comes in two RAM and storage configurations of 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB. The internal memory of both variants is expandable up to 512GB with a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy Tab S5e is powered by a beefy 7,040mAh battery unit with support for fast charging. Connectivity-wise, the tablet is equipped with a USB Type-C (Gen 3.1) port and a POGO connector for connecting an external keyboard (available separately). The S5e also features Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, GPS and also houses a fingerprint scanner (embedded in the power key), accelerometer, hall sensor and RGB light sensor.

Galaxy Tab A 10.1:

The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is a budget-friendly device. It sports a 10.1-inch Full HD display with LCD panel instead of AMOLED. It has a metallic unibody but is slightly thicker than the Tab S5e. The Tab A 10.1 is equipped with dual Dolby Atmos-powered speakers. Under the hood, it houses Samsung’s Exynos 7904 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. It offers 32GB inbuilt memory with an option to expand up to 400GB via microSD card. The device sports a single 8MP rear camera and a 5MP shooter on the front.

The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is backed by a 6,150mAh battery unit. Like the Tab S5e, this one too offers a USB Type-C and POGO port for connectivity along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Pricing & Availability:

Both the Galaxy Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1 are available in Wi-Fi and LTE variants. The Tab S5e Wi-Fi model will go on sale in Q2 of 2019 starting at $399 (~Rs 28,500) whereas the LTE version will start at €479 (~Rs 38,600) in the subsequent months. The price of Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is set at €210 (~Rs 17,000) and €270 (Rs 22,000) for Wi-Fi and LTE variants respectively. It will be available in Germany starting April 5th.
