Samsung Galaxy Watch and Samsung Home smart speakers are the two other devices that were announced alongside the Galaxy Note 9 at the Samsung’s Unpacked event that was held yesterday in the U.S. Instead of debuting the successor of Gear S3 as Gear S4, Samsung has launched its newest smartwatch as Galaxy Watch to take on the likes of Apple Watch and Huawei Watch.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
The Galaxy Watch by Samsung is an IP68 and MIL-STD-810G rated smartwatch. It is swim-ready smartwatch comes with an additional 5ATM pressure rating. There is a 46mm Galaxy Watch model like the Gear S3 that features a 1.3-inch S-AMOLED display and 472mAh battery. There is a smaller 42mm variant that includes 1.2-inch S-AMOLED screen and 270mAh battery. The case of the smartwatch is made out of stainless steel 316L. Both the devices feature Gorilla Glass DX+ protection and wireless charging. Also, both the size variants come in LTE and Bluetooth-only versions.
The LTE variants of the Galaxy Watch comes with 1.5 GB of RAM whereas the Bluetooth-only model has 768 MB of RAM. The smartwatch is powered by Exynos 9110 chipset that includes 1.15 GHz octa-core processor. The Tizen OS 4.0 brings 60,000 watch faces and Always-on Display feature on the Galaxy Watch. The rotating bezel can be used to access the different features of the smartwatch.
The other features of the Galaxy Watch include e-SIM (only LTE model), v4.2 Bluetooth, heart rate sensor, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Samsung’s smartwatch is packed with the company’s own apps for health and activity tracking. At present, there is no confirmation on the Indian release of Galaxy Watch.
As it can be seen in the above images, the Galaxy Watch comes in three case colors such as Rose Gold, Silver and Midnight Black. It will be available in the U.S through T-Mobile starting from 24th August.
The LTE enabled Galaxy Watch 46mm and 42mm models are respectively priced at $375 and $399 whereas the Bluetooth-only 46mm and 42mm Galaxy Watch models are respectively priced at $330 and $350. It will be landing in the home country of South Korea on 30th August and it will be coming to multiple markets on 14th September.
Samsung Galaxy Home
To take on the big players like Amazon Alexa and Google Home, Samsung has announced the all new Samsung Galaxy Home smart speaker. The South Korean company had teamed up with AKG to build its first ever smart speaker.
The Samsung Galaxy Home is equipped with 8 microphones for far-field voice recognition and it also features Bixby assistant and Samsung Music. At the launch, the company also confirmed that Spotify is the official music partner. There is no information on the pricing of Galaxy Home. It is expected to be available in India by the third week of this month. Spotify is not yet available in India. Further reports will reveal whether the company will arrive with some other music partner in India.
