Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a larger cover display, leak claims

Highlights

  • The leak suggests that the cover display may be larger than the one on the OPPO Find N2 Flip
  • Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Z Fold 5 in Q3 this year
  • The flagships may retain the same Qualcomm chipset as the Galaxy S23 series

Samsung recently unveiled the trio of Galaxy flagships, comprising the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Keeping this in mind, the focus has now shifted to the company’s next big flagships, scheduled to launch in Q3 this year — the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. A new tip from reputable source Ice Universe now suggests that Samsung may launch the latter with a slightly larger cover display.

For context, leakster Ice Universe said the cover display on the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 would be larger than the one on the OPPO Find N2 Flip, which happens to be the only real competitor to Samsung’s foldable, although other industry giants are expected to enter the fray soon.

Ice Universe’s revelation suggests that Samsung mid-year foldable refresh will have a cover display larger than 3.26 inches, the size of the aforementioned OPPO foldable. Additional details weren’t provided by the tipster, but this is pretty significant information, if true. While the Galaxy Z Flip series is quite popular in the marketplace, the smaller cover display makes it pale in comparison to OPPO’s offering.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 expected features

The larger cover display would open up multiple opportunities for Samsung while possibly taking inspiration from OPPO’s software additions for the Find N2 Flip’s cover display. For now, Samsung hasn’t offered any details about the upcoming foldable as it appears to be in development. However, we expect leaks like this one to offer better insight into Samsung’s latest clamshell in the weeks and months ahead.

It’s likely that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Z Fold 5 will be running One UI 5.1 or a newer software version at launch. On the hardware front, the two foldables should feature Snapdragon’s current flagship mobile SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which also powers the lineup of Galaxy S23 flagships.
