Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with dual Infinity-O displays

The official name of the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s successor is not known yet, but the report claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will go into mass production soon as the company has started developing its final samples. It reiterates that the foldable phone will arrive with an under-display camera and S Pen support.

According to the report, Samsung’s under-display camera technology will be able to capture photos by passing light through the gap between the pixels of the display. It states that if the inclusion of the under-screen camera hampers the quality of the display or images in the final tests, the company may exclude the feature from the Z Fold 3. The under-display camera feature will certainly allow the foldable phone to deliver a full-screen experience. With S Pen stylus onboard, it is expected to offer a tablet PC like experience.

Samsung was able to add an in-screen digitizer on the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2, but it encountered problems in developing a screen protective layer that could prevent S Pen from scratching the display while using it. Hence, the Galaxy Fold and Z Fold 2 did not come with S Pen support. To resolve the problem, Samsung has reportedly developed a second-generation Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) layer for the Z Fold 3. The new UTG will make it possible for the users to seamlessly use the S Pen on Z Fold 3’s display.

Galaxy Note Series may get discontinued

Just as recent reports have revealed, Aju News has also claimed that Samsung will discontinue the Galaxy Note series starting from 2021. This could be the reason why not only the Z Fold 3, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra that is expected to debut in January are expected to come with S Pen support. The CAD renders of the S21 Ultra that surfaced in the recent past revealed that it does not have a dedicated storage slot for the S Pen. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is speculated to come with a dedicated compartment for storing the stylus.
