Samsung S Pen has been the mainstay in Samsung Note devices, but the legacy of the S Pen currently lives on with the Ultras and Z Folds. S Pen started to make its presence from Z Fold 3. But Z Fold 3 and Z Fold 4 did not have a slot for the S Pen; they just supported S Pen.
It was widely expected that the future Fold devices would come with a slot for S Pen, like the older Notes. But a new report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 might also not come with an S Pen slot.
This report comes from ETNews, a Korean publication with insider sources on the matter. The report claims that Samsung was indeed working on bringing the S Pen slot with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 but eventually decided against including the feature in the device. The S Pen slot was dropped due to design considerations and the impact on internal space. The slot would have also increased the thickness of the phone.
It is also claimed that Samsung was working on a thinner S Pen for Z Fold devices. Samsung is apparently working on a thinner S Pen that doesn’t compromise the writing experience, but it won’t be ready on time for Z Fold 5.
The S Pen slot is a much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series feature. It doesn’t make sense that the users needing S Pen must carry it separately with the Z Fold devices. Integrating an S Pen slot into the phone itself would be a God send for many users, especially with the big real estate inner screen that the Fold provides.
