Samsung today unveiled its Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier smartwatches in India, as promised. Samsung held an event in New Delhi this evening to announce its Gear S3 line in the Indian market. These smartwatches were announced initially at IFA 2016 in Berlin back in September last year. Both the smartwatches cost Rs 28,500 each and will be available to purchase starting January 18.
These sport a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen with 360 x 360 pixels resolution and 278 PPI pixel density. Inside is a 1GHz dual-core chip combined with 768MB RAM. These run Tizen-based wearable platform 2.3.2 and offer 4GB onboard storage. Furthermore, they both are IP68 certified water and dust resistant. Internally, a 380mAh Lithium ion battery is what keeps the overall performance going, supposedly up to 4 days.
They come with the standard set of sensors like gyroscope, heart rate, barometer, and ambient light. On the connectivity front, they are compatible with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC. These come with a built-in speaker for voice calling and listening to music.
In other news, Samsung recently released Gear S and Gear Fit apps on Apple App Store. Meaning, Samsung’s wearables such as Gear S3, Gear S2, and Gear Fit 2 are now compatible with iPhone. However, this compatibility is limited to iPhone 5 and above, running iOS 9.0 and above. As obvious as it may seem, this will bring some healthy tussle between Samsung and Apple.
