Samsung Gear Smartwatches & Fitness Bands Now Compatible With iPhone

On: January 9, 2017

Two new Samsung apps, namely Gear S and Gear Fit, have made it to Apple’s App Store. Meaning, Samsung Gear smartwatches comprising Gear S2 and the most recent Gear S3 line now work with iPhone. Similarly, Gear Fit 2 wearables are also compatible with iOS, thanks to the app. Looking at the past, Samsung’s first Gear smartwatch used to work only on select Samsung phones. This changed later with Samsung introducing Gear Manager app on Google Play Store, making Gear smartwatches compatible with all Android smartphones running Android 4.4 and above.

Once these apps are installed, users will be required to follow certain steps in order to pair with Samsung wearable smartwatches and fitness bands. Samsung, however, stated that features offered by Gear wearables are limited to select iPhone models. That said, one needs to keep in mind that these apps are compatible only with iPhone 5 and above, running iOS 9.0 and above. Needless to say, this move will result in a tough competition between the two companies.

In case you have missed our earlier news update, Samsung is all set to launch its Gear S3 line in India tomorrow, January 10th. The Gear S3 line, which includes Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier, was unveiled initially during IFA last year in Berlin. Both the smartwatches run Tizen-based wearable platform 2.3.2. Furthermore, they are also IP68 certified water and dust resistant. Internally, a 380mAh battery with wireless charging is claimed to last up to 4 days.
