Samsung has announced the expansion of its Noida unit to double the manufacturing capacity. At an event held in Lucknow, Mr. HC Hong, President & CEO of Samsung India announced that the company will invest Rs 1,970 crores in next three years.
While signing the MoU with Uttar Pradesh government at the event, Mr. Hong also said, “In line with our commitment to ‘Make in India’ and living by our promise to ‘Make for India’, we are pleased to receive the Uttar Pradesh Government’s approval to invest in the state and expand our manufacturing base here in India.”
The Government of Uttar Pradesh approved the investment by Samsung to strengthen its commitment to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for India’. The investment was approved under Super Mega A by the state’s Cabinet Committee in Lucknow today.
With this investment, the company plans to get an additional 1.3 lakh square meter land for the expansion of its Noida capacity which will also generate additional employment for 2,200 people. Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary, Rahul Bhatnagar said, “Samsung’s mobile phone manufacturing capacity alone will be doubled from 6 million units a month now to 12 million over the course of time.”
He also added, “We are witnessing an increase in the adoption of electronic devices, appliances and mobile phones. A bigger and more robust manufacturing facility will help us address the needs and demands of our growing customer base across the country and the region.”
Samsung started its Noida plant in 1996 and since then it has been successful in establishing two factories, three R&D centers, a design center and employing over 40,000 people all over the India. The Noida plant alone employs around 4000 people.
