In November 2019, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy W20 5G foldable phone in China. It was a variant of the original Galaxy Fold, and was exclusively made available through the China Telecom operator in the country along with bundled premium services for its customers. Today, the South Korean company held its first offline launch event of the year to announce the Samsung W21 5G in Chin.
Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, the Samsung W21 5G sports a more premium design. The Glitter Gold coloured glass rear of the device has a wave-like textured pattern. However in terms of specs, the Samsung W21 5G does not differ from its Z Fold counterpart.
Samsung W21 5G specifications and features
The Samsung W21 5G has a 6.23-inch S-AMOLED display with Infinity-O punch-hole design on the outside. It features 816 x 2,218 pixels HD+ resolution, a 25:9 aspect ratio, and 386ppi pixel density. Opening the device reveals a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED display that delivers 2,208 x 1,768 pixels resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Snapdragon 865+ chipset is present under the hood of the Galaxy W21 5G. The phone comes with 12GB of LPPDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It has a 4,500mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging and 11W wireless charging. It has a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
In the front, the Samsung W21 5G features a 10-megapixel selfie camera and there is another 10-megapixel camera in the punch-hole of the phone’s internal display. The rear of the device has a 12-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS and 2x optical zoom, and a 2-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. The phone comes with dual-SIM support among other connectivity features.
Samsung W21 5G pricing and availability
The Samsung W21 5G is priced at RMB 19,999 Yuan (~Rs 2,23,500) in China, whereas the regular Z Fold2 5G costs RMB 16,999 (~Rs 1,90,000). The higher price brings concierge services and a more premium design to buyers of the W21 5G.
