Let’s admit that we all have experienced a minor heart attack when we’ve dropped our phones. Mobile phones today are becoming thinner and lighter along with bezel-less displays. Brands like Apple and Samsung have been incorporating more glass in their phone designs owing to wireless charging. Premium phones like iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Huawei P20 Pro and OnePlus 6 have embraced phone designs with glass backs. While they look stunning, the phones are highly prone to potential damage & scratches since glass is quite fragile. Companies charge a hefty amount for replacement of glass if you drop and shatter your phone.
However this may now be a thing of the past. Thanks to the new technology breakthrough by glass maker Corning. It announced in a statement about the introduction of Gorilla Glass 6. The company claims that this is the toughest glass manufactured till date. The Gorilla Glass 6 is the successor to the previous Gorilla Glass 5. It is touted to survive up to 15 drops from one meter height and is said to be twice as better than its predecessor.

“Corning Gorilla Glass 6 improves upon Gorilla Glass 5 by surviving drops from higher heights, but more importantly, has been engineered to survive multiple drops” said John Bayne, Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass.
The Gorilla Glass 6 will likely arrive in the next few months and may eventually land on every major mobile device. With Gorilla Glass 6, future smartphones may have better chance of surviving accidental drops and scratches.
