Sharp Aquos R2 Compact With Dual Notches Goes Official

Announced today in Japan, the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is a small-sized flagship smartphone that is equipped with dual notches. The upper notch is the home for the selfie camera whereas the second is present at the bottom of the screen and it houses the fingerprint sensor-enabled home button.

Sharp R2 Aquos Specifications and Features

The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact features a dust and water-resistant chassis that weighs only 135 grams. It comes in Smoky Green, Deep White and Pure Black colours. With dimensions of 131 x 64 x 9.3mm, the R2 Compact features a 5.2-inch IGZO LCD display that carries support for Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and it is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The home button offers gesture-based navigation.

The new flagship phone from Sharp features the Snapdragon 845 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage of the phone is 64 GB. It is equipped with a microSD card slot for additional storage.

The smartphone is packed with a battery of 2,500mAh capacity that carries support for USB Power Delivery fast charging. The smartphone comes preloaded with Android 9 Pie. The device also features the Emopa voice-assistant by Sharp.

For capturing selfies, the R2 Aquos Compact has an 8-megapixel front camera which also doubles up for the face unlock feature. While capturing selfies, the screen of the phone can function as a selfie flash.

The rear features a 22.6-megapixel camera with LED flash at the top-left corner. The rear camera carries support for optical and electronic image stabilisation. It is also equipped with AI features such as scene recognition and face beauty.

The R2 Compact features a USB Type-C port and 3.5mm audio jack. The other features of the smartphone include VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS.

Sharp R2 Aquos Pricing and Availability

The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact will be available for purchase in mid-January. Since Sharp smartphones are mainly sold in Japan, it is unlikely to be available outside of its home market. There is no information available on the pricing of the smartphone as of now.
