Sharp AQUOS R3 With Snapdragon 855 And 120Hz Display Launched In Japan

Sharp has announced the AQUOS R3 flagship phone in Japan. Like the AQUOS R2 Compact smartphone from last year, the AQUOS R3 comes with dual notches on its display. It is a Snapdragon 855 powered flagship phone that is packed with some exciting specs.

The AQUOS R3 features a 6.2-inch Pro IGZO display supplied by Sharp. It is equipped with a u-shaped notch on the top and a larger notch on the bottom which houses the fingerprint scanner embedded home button. The display of the AQUOS R3 offers quad HD+ resolution of 1,440 x 3,120 pixels. It also carries support for HDR 10, Dolby Vision and 120Hz refresh rate.

The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform fuels the AQUOS R3 smartphone with 6GB of RAM. It has an internal storage of 128GB. The smartphone is backed by a 3,200mAh battery that supports fast charging through USB Type-C. It is also equipped with Qi standard 11W wireless charging.

The front notch houses 16-megapixel selfie camera, which also offers a face recognition feature. The dual-LED flash enabled rear-facing dual camera setup has an f/1.7 aperture 12.2-megapixel primary sensor with features like OIS, high speed autofocus and image processor engine along, with a secondary f/2.0 aperture 20-megapixel super-wide lens with 125-degree FOV. The AQUOS R3 comes with AI driven photography features such as AI Live Shutter and AI Live Story.

The AQUOS R3 comes preinstalled with Android 9 Pie and it is fitted with Dolby Atmos powered stereo speakers. It includes the usual connectivity features such as single/dual SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and a 3.5mm audio jack. It comes with a dedicated hardware button to summon the Google Assistant. The rear shell of the AQUOS R3 is made out of glass. It measures 156 x 74 x 8.9mm and weighs 185 grams.

Sharp is yet to confirm the price tag of the AQUOS R3. Considering the fact that the Japanese firm seldom launches its smartphones outside of its home market, the AQUOS R3 could be exclusively available in Japan.
