Amazon has released a new app that will allow Android TV users to use Alexa. At the moment, the feature will be available only on Sony Android TVs, and Amazon is yet to comment on availability for other brand TVs.
After installing the new app you will be able to use Alexa to control Android TV, view security camera feeds and play music via your TV. You can simply say, “Alexa, play music on the TV” or “Alexa, show my security camera on TV.” That apart, you will also be able to change channels and access various other TV features with Alexa Voice commands. Earlier, this option was only available for TVs with Fire TV Stick.
It is no secret that Amazon and Google have been staunch rivals. Amazon stopped selling Google’s Chromecast on its ecommerce platform, while Google retaliated by blocking Prime Video support on Chromecast, and pulling YouTube support on Fire TV devices. With the companies finally having worked together to resolve these issues, users stand to benefit the most.
