Sony had introduced its iconic Walkman brand of portable media players way back in 1979. While Walkmans eventually died out after smartphones, the Japanese brand has now revived its media player in a modern avatar. The new device is called the NW-105 Android Walkman and comes with a new design and features. Sony says that it intends to take users on a trip down memory lane while offering a best-in-class audio experience. Let’s find out what the new Walkman offers out of the box.
Sony NW-105 Android Walkman specifications and features
The new Walkman features a 3.6-inch touchscreen display bearing HD resolution and slim bezels. There are physical buttons on the right side for music playback. The device is available in only a Black colour option.
The NW-105 Walkman features high-resolution audio that is claimed to deliver better than CD-quality sound. The device supports DSD audio formats and FLAC playback up to 11.2MHz with high-quality PCM conversion. Sony says that the Walkman also supports DSEE HX that rebuilds lost audio during digital compression.
The NW-105 Android Walkman packs 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The device comes with Google services which means that users can store music on Google Drive and other cloud-based backup services. The latest Walkman runs Android 9 with support for all streaming apps and services via Wi-Fi connectivity. Users can connect wireless audio accessories via Bluetooth as well as NFC pairing. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sony hasn’t mentioned the battery capacity of the new Walkman, but the brand promises 26-hours of usage, and has added a USB-C port as well.
