- Sony has hiked the prices of PS5 by up to 12% in India
- The PS5 Digital Edition now costs Rs 44,990, while the 4K Blu-ray version costs Rs 54,990
If you are considering getting the latest PS5 from Sony, we have bad news. The company has quietly updated the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition prices on the Sony Center website ShopAtSC. The price hike comes barely days after Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Series X and Series S consoles in India three times in a row.
The price increase can be linked to currency fluctuations and the ongoing economic slowdown. Fortunately, there’s no change in price for any PS5 accessories. Here’s everything you need to know about the price hike.
Sony PS5 price hike
The 4K Blu-ray-enabled PlayStation 5 now costs Rs. 54,990, a 10% increase above its original price of Rs. 49,990. Meanwhile, the disc-less PS5 Digital Edition is becoming even more pricey at Rs. 44,990, a 12.5 per cent increase above its original price of Rs. 39,990.
However, when it comes to a PS5 price hike, India isn’t the only affected market — nor is it the first. In August, the company announced the price hike for markets like the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, China, Mexico, and select markets in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. While Canada experienced the lowest increase, at 3 to 4 per cent, Sony’s home country Japan was the most affected, with a 21 to 24 per cent increase.
Sony PS5 features and specifications
The Sony PlayStation 5 supports 8K gameplay at up to 120 fps. It also supports 4K TV gaming, allowing players a refresh rate of 120Hz for excellent gameplay. Coming to the core specs, the console is powered by an eight-core AMD Zen 2 processor and a custom AMD RDNA 2-based GPU. There’s 16GB GDDR6 RAM onboard and SSD storage. Besides, it comes with HDR and Tempest 3D AudioTech for an immersive gaming experience.
