Last month, Sony had confirmed that it will be launching new phones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 tech trade show on February 24th. After several companies decided to skip MWC 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak, the tech exhibition was cancelled. Nevertheless, Sony announced the Xperia 10 II mid-range phone, Xperia 1 II flagship phone and the advanced Xperia Pro through a livestream event. The Xperia 1 II powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform is the Japanese tech giant’s first 5G smartphone.
Sony Xperia 1 II and Xperia Pro specifications and features
The Sony Xperia 1 II which is pronounced Xperia One Mark Two features a 4K HDR OLED panel measuring 6.5-inches. The CinemaWide display offers a tall aspect ratio of 21:9 and a resolution of 1,644 x 3,840 pixels. Many smartphone manufacturers have started offering higher refresh rates on their smartphones. The Xperia 1 II’s display has Motion Blur technology that can adjust individual frames that allows it to work like a 90Hz panel. There are dual front-facing speakers on the Xperia 1 II which promise enhanced audio experience as it is equipped with 360 Reality Audio AI engine.
The Snapdragon 865 powered Xperia 1 II has 8GB of RAM. It features a native storage of 256GB. The handset has support for wireless charging for its 4,000mAh battery. The Xperia 1 II has a front camera of 8-megapixels with f/2.0 aperture
There are four cameras on the rear of the Xperia 1 II. It has an Exmor 1/1.7” 12-megapixel primary lens that offers features an f/1.7 aperture, Dual Pixel PDAF and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The second lens is an OIS enabled 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter with f/2.2 aperture and dual Pixel PDAF. There is a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom support, 70mm focal length, f/2.4 aperture and OIS. Lastly, there is a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) lens.
Sony has teamed up with ZEISS for the optics on the Xperia 1 II. The Xperia 1 II is the company’s first phone to arrive with features that are available on Sony’s Alpha lineup cameras. The Xperia 1 II comes with 20fps shooting in burst mode, Eye AF that can track animal eyes and can calculate AF/AE at up 60 times per second. Also, the Japanese tech giant claims that the autofocus of the Xperia 1 II’s main camera covers 70 percent of the frame. For professional photo and video shooting experience, there is Photo Pro and Cinema Pro apps on the phone.
The Xperia Pro has the same cameras and display that can be found on the Xperia 1 II. The phone offers a massive internal storage of 512GB and it comes with an HDMI input port. There is a dedicated hardware key that can be mapped with any app of your choice. It is equipped with an HDMI port. The phone can connect to sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks. Instead of a glass rear, the device has a rugged casing.
Sony Xperia 10 II specifications and features
The Xperia 10 II mid-range phone has a 6-inch OLED display with full HD+ resolution and a 21:9 CinemaWide viewing ratio. The Snapdragon 665 SoC, 4GB of RAM powers the device along with a big battery of 3,600mAh capacity. It has a frontal snapper of 8-megapixel. The back panel of the phone has three cameras including a 12-megapixel main lens Dual Pixel PDAF, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom support. The phone offers users with an internal storage of 128GB.
The new Xperia phones are IP68 rated waterproof and dust resistant devices. Their front and rear sides are covered with Gorilla Glass 6 panels. They are loaded with Android 10. They are equipped with side-facing fingerprint readers. Sony has brought back the 3.5mm audio jack on the Xperia 1 II phone which was absent on the predecessor Xperia 1 smartphone. The Xperia 10 II also features a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sony Xperia 1 II, Xperia 10 II and Xperia Pro pricing and availability
There is no word on the availability of the Xperia Pro phones. However, the Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II are going to release in Q2 2020. The Xperia 1 II will be available in a 4G version in the US, whereas the European markets will receive its 5G edition. Sony is yet to confirm on whether it will be bringing the new Xperia phones to India.
