The Sony Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III smartphones have launched today. The Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are flagship phones powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. On the other hand, the Xperia 10 III is the first 5G-enabled mid-range phone from the Japanese tech giant.

The Xperia 1 III is the world’s first smartphone to feature a 4K OLED panel that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. Unlike other smartphone OEMs that offer fixed-focus telephoto cameras, the lens elements of the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III can move within the periscope telephoto camera, which allows it to offer users 70mm to 10mm telephoto options. This lets both smartphones to offer around 2.9x and 4.4x optical zoom.

The Xperia 1 III has a 6.5-inch CinemaWide 4K HDR OLED screen that offers a refresh rate of 120Hz, whereas the Xperia 5 III has a smaller 6.1-inch CinemaWide HDR OLED screen that produces a Full HD+ resolution. Both displays offer a 21:9 aspect ratio, Sony’s 240Hz motion processing technology. and X1 Bravia TV engine for HDR processing.

The Snapdragon 888 mobile platform powers the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III with up to 12GB of LPPDR5 RAM. These phones offer up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage and a dedicated microSD card slot for additional storage. For gamers, the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are equipped with features like stereo loudspeakers with sound equalizer and 120fps 1080p game recording. There is Heat Suppression technology onboard not only allows the phone to cool while gaming, but also to get power directly from the cord without passing through the battery.

The Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III have an 8-megapixel front camera. The only difference between the two phones is that the former also gets a 3D ToF sensor for depth effects. The rear camera setup of both devices features an OIS-enabled 12-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and 12-megapixel OIS periscope telephoto lens with a variable focal length of 70mm to 105mm. The Xperia 1 III also gets a 3D ToF sensor in its rear camera setup.  For an optimal photography experience, the company is providing ZEISS lenses with T coating, BIONZ X processor for processing low-light photos, real-time Eye AF, Optical SteadyShot, and 120fps 4K video slow-motion video recording.

The Xperia 1 III and 5 III are equipped with a 4,5000mAh battery that supports 30W rapid charging. The Xperia 1 III also supports wireless charging. Both smartphones are IP68 rated dustproof and water-resistant devices. The Xperia 1 III comes with Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the front and rear, whereas the Xperia 5 II has Gorilla Glass 6 panels on the front and rear sides.

Sony Xperia 10 III specifications and features

The Xperia 10 III has a 6-inch OLED screen that offers Full HD+ resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 support, and a 60Hz refresh rate. It is an IP65/68 rated device with Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the front.

The Snapdragon 690 5G chipset along with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM is present under the hood of the Xperia 10 III. The smartphone houses a 4,500mAh battery, which supports 18W rapid charging. For storage, the handset offers 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage and a microSD card slot.

The rear camera setup of the Xperia 10 III has a 12-megapixel primary lens with f/1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with up to 10x hybrid zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide snapper with a 120-degree FOV. For selfies, it has a front camera of 8-mgeapixel.

The new Xperia phones run Android 11 and they are equipped with a side-facing fingerprint scanner for security. For audiophiles, the Xperia trio also features a 3.5mm audio jack.

Sony is yet to confirm the pricing and availability of the Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III smartphones. The Xperia I III will be available in three colours such as Frosted Black, Frosted Gray, and Frosted Purple, whereas the Xperia 5 III will come in hues like Black, Green, and Pink. The Xperia 10 III will be available in colour options such as black, white, blue, and pink.
