Sony Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 10 IV have been launched. The former is the company’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, whereas the Xperia 10 IV is a mid-range 5G phone driven by the Snapdragon 695 SoC. It succeeds the Xperia 10 III, which debuted in 2021. The Xperia 1 IV is a premium flagship that has arrived as the successor to last year’s Xperia Pro-1.

Like its predecessor model, the Xperia 1 IV promises a top-notch photography experience. In addition, it comes equipped with an AMOLED screen that supports a 4K resolution. It is one of the rare flagship phones that comes equipped with a microSD card slot.

Starting with the front, the Xperia 1 IV has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 4K resolution. It offers 50 percent more brightness than its previous generation. It also offers a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The rear shell of the device is also flanked by a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone comes with either 256GB or 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W rapid charging. The retail package of the device does not include a charger. It runs on the near-stock version of the Android 12 OS.

The front of the Xperia 1 IV features a 12-megapixel ExmorRS selfie camera. It carries support for 4K video recording. The back panel of the phone has a triple camera unit that is headlined by an OIS-assisted 12-megapixel camera. It is coupled with an autofocus-enabled 12-megapixel ultrawide snapper and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with an 85mm to 125mm focal length. The telephoto lens carries support for the continuous optical zoom with 3.5x5x optical magnification, OIS, and autofocus.

The Xperia 1 IV supports 4K video recording at 120fps. It also supports other photography features such as real-time object tracking, Optical SteadyShot with Flawless Eye, and Eye AF. The camera module also includes a 3D ToF sensor and an RGB IR sensor, which provide data to AI algorithms for controlling white balance. The Xperia 1 IV can stream live content using its cameras or through the Sony Alpha camera over 5G.

The Xperia 1 IV comes with two front-facing speakers that produce up to 50 percent more bass than its predecessor. It comes equipped with other audio features such as a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth LE Audio, and 360 Reality Audio. For security, it has a side-facing fingerprint scanner. Lastly, it is an IP68 / IPX5 certified dustproof and water-resistant chassis.

The Xperia 10 IV has a 6-inch OLED panel that offers an FHD+ resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, a 60Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Snapdragon 695 powered device comes preinstalled with Android 12 OS. Sony claims that since it weighs 161 grams, it is the lightest 5G smartphone featuring a 5,000mAh battery. It carries support for 30W fast charging. It has a 12-megapixel (main, with OIS) + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 8-megapixel (telephoto) triple camera unit. The Xperia 10 IV comes with other features such as LDAC support, 360 Audio, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and an IP68 rated chassis.

In Europe, the Sony Xperia 1 IV is priced at €1,399 (~Rs 1,14,110). Pre-orders for the phone will begin tomorrow (May 12th, 2022), with shipments beginning in June. The Xperia 10 IV carries a price tag of €499 (~Rs 40,700) and its sales will begin in June. The device will come in four colours: black, white, mint, and lavender. It is unclear whether the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 10 IV will be made available in India.
