Sony Xperia L1 with Android 7.0 Nougat, USB Type-C Now Official

Sony has expanded its smartphones portfolio with the Sony Xperia L1, the latest device in the company’s ‘L series’ lineup. It comes in different colour options like Pink, Black, and White. Price details are unavailable at the time of writing this, though. We might update this post once pricing is revealed. Hence, do remember to check this column later again. Moving on, the Sony Xperia L1 will go on sale initially in North America starting next month. Sony, however, is yet to confirm if the device will hit the Indian market anytime soon.

The Sony Xperia L1 comes in two options — single and dual-SIM, depending upon the market. It comes with 1280 x 720 pixels stretched across a 5.5-inch screen, resulting in 267 PPI pixel density. This equation seems a bit odd given that phones with a huge screen size should ideally sport at least a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution to avoid max. pixelation. Internally, the Sony Xperia L1 is powered by a MediaTek MT6737T quad-core chip ticking at 1.4GHz. Furthermore, it embraces 2GB RAM and 16GB built-in memory that is expandable up to 256GB using a microSD support.

As the title suggests, the phone runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box, which is commendable. Hence, as obvious as it may sound, yes, it comes with a built-in Google Assistant. The device measures 8.7 mm in thickness and weighs 180 g, which undoubtedly falls on the heavier side. Under the hood, the battery is rated at 2620mAh with support for Qnovo adaptive charging. It features a set of connectivity options like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C. Unfortunately, it lacks support for a fingerprint scanner.

Finally, comes the photography part. Having said that, the Sony Xperia L1 packs a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. Up front is a 5MP secondary camera for selfies. By looking at these specs, it is safe to assume that the Sony Xperia L1 is likely to be a sub Rs 10,000 phone in India.
