Sony Xperia Pro-I has been launched in the US. It has arrived as the successor for the Xperia Pro flagship, which debuted at the beginning of 2021. The Xperia Pro-I promises a professional-grade photography experience thanks to the inclusion of a massive 1-inch Exmor RS sensor.  It is the same sensor which is available on the Sony Alpha RX100 VII point-and-shoot camera.

Apart from featuring an RXV100 camera, the Xperia Pro-I borrows all its specs from the Xperia 1 III. The smartphone offers users with a 4K OLED panel that offers a 21:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset and a decent battery with fast charge support.

Sony Xperia Pro-I features a 1-inch Exmor RS sensor

The Sony Xperia Pro-I features a 6.5-inch OLED panel that delivers a 4K HDR resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It comes with an 8-megapixel front camera.

The 1-inch sensor on the RX100 VII can capture 20-megapixel shots. However, the same lens has been optimised for smartphones on the Xperia Pro-I, which means it can produce 12-megapixel snaps. The Pro-I ’s main sensor has 2.4µm-sized pixels and a ZEISS coated 24mm lens with f/2.0 to f/4.0 variable apertures. It supports dual pixel PDAF and OIS. The massive lens allows users to capture 12-bit RAW images and 120fps 4K videos.

The quad-camera unit of the Xperia Pro-I also includes a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with dual PDAF, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with PDAF, OIS, and 2x optical zoom, and a 0.3-megapixel ToF 3D depth sensor. The Pro-I ’s cameras are powered by Sony BIONZ X imaging processors, which allows users to shoot up to 2fps with autofocus and auto-exposure enabled. The handset offers users two physical camera buttons. The first one is a two-stage shutter key, and the other one is for launching the Videography Pro app.

The Snapdragon 888 is at the helm of the Xperia Pro-I . It ships with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of built-in storage. It houses a 4,500mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging. The handset offers other features such as 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-frequency GPS, a microSD card slot, a side-facing fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm audio jack. For audiophiles, it comes with LDAC with DSEE, 360 Reality Audio, and 360 spatial sound output. Lastly, it comes with an IP65/68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Xperia Pro-I is priced at $1,899 (~Rs 1,42,700) in the US. Its pre-orders are set to begin on October 28th, and it will go on sale in December. The Japanese manufacturer will be also selling the Xperia Pro-I in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Nordic regions.
