The pre-booking amount has been capped at $99 (~Rs 7,220) and the estimated time of rollout is quoted to be 2022. Starlink is a division within Elon Musk-owned SpaceX, which is a growing network of orbital satellites, with the first prototype satellites launched into Earth’s orbit in 2018. Ever since SpaceX has deployed over 1,000 Starlink satellites into orbit through more than 20 successful launches.

These satellites are intended to provide high-speed broadband in rural areas and other parts of the world where wired broadband has not reached yet. In order to make the connection, users will be required to set up a small satellite dish to receive the signal and pass the bandwidth to the router.

The pre-order of SpaceX Starlink is already live in India and anyone can go to the official website of Starlink and book a connection. Below are the steps to pre-order a Starlink satellite broadband connection.

  2. In the ‘Service Address’ box, enter your locality
  3. Click on ‘Order Now’
  4. Enter your name, phone number, and email address
  5. Provide your billing details including name, pin code, and credit card details
  6. Click on ‘Place deposit’

Bear in mind, the deposit amount is $99 (~Rs 7,220) but it’s fully refundable according to the site.

The initial pre-booking deposit amount is $99 (~Rs 7,220). Once the connection is confirmed, the user will have to pay $499 (~Rs 36,400) for the Starling Kit, which includes the satellite dish, a mounting tripod, and a Wi-Fi router. Starlink broadband speed in India

As of now, Starlink offers an internet speed in the range of 50Mbps and 150Mbps with latency between 20ms to 40ms. Elon Mush has announced that the speed would be doubled to reach 300Mbps, with the latency being reduced to 20 ms in 2021 itself.

The website mentions that the coverage would arrive in India in 2022 but will be in limited availability.  The orders will be fulfilled by the company on a first-come, first-served basis.
