Spotify is currently offering an annual subscription for Rs 999 in India, discounted from the standard price of Rs 1,189. The music streaming service has now come up with another plan to turn non-paying members into subscribers. It is called Spotify Premium Mini, and at the moment, seems to be restricted to users in India.
The new paid tier membership seems inspired by Netflix’s mobile-only plan priced at Rs 199 per month. The Premium Mini subscription is available in the form of one day and one week plans. It is much cheaper than the original daily and weekly plans offered by Spotify, but comes with its own limitations.
What is Spotify Premium Mini?
Spotify Premium Mini is the newest paid tier from the streaming music platform. It joins the individual plan priced at Rs 199 per month and annual plan priced at Rs 1,189 (discounted to Rs 999 until December 31st, 2020). It is a step up from the free tier, but a step down from the individual monthly plan.
In many ways, the Spotify Premium Mini looks like an affordable paid tier for those still on the fence about paying for the streaming music platform. It also seems to replace the daily and weekly plans previously offered by Spotify in India. Spotify had launched in India last year with subscriptions starting for as little as Rs 13 per day and Rs 39 for seven days. These plans seem to be replaced with Premium Mini.
Spotify Premium Mini: how is it different from the standard plan?
With Premium Mini, Spotify is offering a premium membership, but it does cut corners to reach an affordable price point. It is similar to standard plans in only one area, which is the ad-free listening experience.
As mentioned above, you will only be able to use it with a mobile device. With this plan, downloads are limited to 30 songs and only to one device. The standard plans let you download 10,000 songs per device, on up to five devices.
While the 30-song download limit might not deter users, the deal breaker could be the sound quality. With Premium Mini, you get audio quality at bit rate of 160kbps, which is the same as the free tier. The standard plans, however, offer higher audio quality at 320kbps.
How much does Spotify Premium Mini cost?
Spotify Premium Mini is available in two different options in India. There is a one day plan priced at Rs 7 and a week-long plan priced at Rs 25. With these plans, Spotify is making its music streaming platform more attractive to Indian users.
What are the accepted payment methods for Spotify Premium Mini?
You will be able to purchase these plans using either Paytm or UPI as payment modes. This is being touted as another big advantage of Premium Mini. On the product page, the brand says no credit cards are required.
As per Spotify, you can load up to three months of Premium if you buy Mini. After your subscription ends, your account will revert to the free tier and all downloads will be removed automatically.
