The Jaidka Group is gearing up to launch the Stella Buzz e-scooter in India this month

Highlights

  • The Jaidka Group has decades of experience working in the automobile sector
  • Unfortunately, Stella Motor did not reveal the specifications and pricing of the new e-scooter
  • The company expects to have at least 200 retail outlets across India by next year

Stella Automobili, a subsidiary of the Jaidka Group, is preparing to launch electric two-wheelers in the country. The company’s first e-scooter in India, known as the Buzz, will break cover this month. Stella is planning to set up a retail presence across major points of the city, with the tally currently standing at 55 authorized dealers. The company said it hopes to have at least 200 outlets by 2023.

While production and assembly are not done locally, Stella says it will shift to localized production by 2024. With the launch of the Buzz e-scooter, the company is hoping to sell at least sell 10,000 units by the end of the financial year 2023. Speaking on the future, Stella said it is considering the launch of electric bikes and more e-scooters over the next few months.

Talking about the company’s progression in the automobile industry, the Director of Jaidka Group, Gopak Jaidka said, “We have always had a strong interest in the automobile sector and are excited to enter the electric two-wheeler space. We have spent the last few years developing a strong R&D and technology infrastructure to create purposeful, extremely safe and class-leading electric vehicles.”

The Jaidka Group currently has manufacturing units near Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Howrah, West Bengal. These two production units can produce up to 20,000 automobiles annually, with the company working toward scaling up to 1,00,000 vehicles in the future. The Jaidka Group is no stranger to the automobile industry, with the manufacturer known for its electric cargo three-wheelers and two-wheeler portfolios.

Is Stella too late to join the e-scooter party?

The frequency of new electric scooter launches has increased gradually over the past few months. Hero MotoCorp launched the Vida V1 e-scooter recently, while Ola’s S1 and S1 Pro lineup have been available for over a year now. More options are always good for the consumers, though we feel price and range will play a crucial factor in any electric scooter’s success.

The makers of the Stella Buzz did not confirm the specifications and the pricing of the Buzz e-scooter. However, it’s likely that it will be similar to the company’s existing e-scooters such as the SA1000 and the SA2000.
